Leonardo's Lady with an Ermine, painted around 1489 to 1491, is one of the calmest portraits I know, so I cut it up. In this Lady with an Ermine pop art version her face is split into strips, black bars cross her forehead and mouth, and Chinese characters sit on her cheeks. A Chinese 100 banknote takes the place of her chest, with a black bead necklace over it. She holds the white ermine in an arm that wears a steel wristwatch, and a black badge with a compass rose sits on her blue sleeve.
The old portrait stays quiet while modern clutter piles onto it. Coloured blocks in the spirit of Mondrian drift on the left against the black background. It is my take on Leonardo da Vinci pop art, and this Lady with an Ermine pop art works well at this size. It is statement wall art that holds a dark wall without help.
This pop art lithograph is from 2023, based on my 2022 painting, and every one is hand-finished. I add my own acrylic brushstrokes on top of the print, plus a textured gel that goes on white and dries completely clear. It is stretched on a stretcher bar in a black frame, size 60x80 cm, with a serial number and certificate. Made to order: message me on Instagram or by email.
The same image also exists as an original painting.
