A general in a dark-blue uniform holds a knot of light-blue balloons while toy tanks, planes and explosions crawl over his chest and sleeves. Behind him, gold and a few hand-drawn price charts. It is political pop art about war, markets and the trust we put in a face on a banknote, and about how easily all three can be twisted into a balloon animal.
His portrait is glitched, with strips slipping sideways across the mouth, and a few Mondrian-like colour blocks sit among the charts. This work belongs to my second collection, SCAM.
Each pop art lithograph is hand-finished. I add my own acrylic brushstrokes by hand, so the surface has real brushwork and not just ink. A textured gel goes on white and dries completely clear, which gives the print relief you can see when light moves across it.
The lithograph is 60 x 80 cm. It arrives stretched and framed in black, ready to hang, with its own serial number and a certificate. It suits a desk-facing office wall, a living room or any space that needs one piece of loud political pop art. The image started as my original painting.
