«Van Gogh Dreams»

This is my Van Gogh pop art lithograph. A woman stands side-on against a black background and turns her face to you, wearing gold hoops, a chain necklace and a brown leather handbag. Van Gogh covers her like a tattoo sleeve: the bandaged-ear self-portrait on her shoulder, sunflowers on her white top, almond blossom on her forearm and Starry Night around her wrist. A tiny ear hangs at the bottom of the bag.

Her face slips out of line in a sliding strip, with black bars across it. I wanted to show how an artist who sold almost nothing in his lifetime now sells everything, as mugs, scarves and bags. Mondrian-style colour blocks stand on the left. As Van Gogh pop art goes, it is more about fame than flowers. If you are looking for airbnb wall art that gives guests something to talk about, this is a good wall for it.

The lithograph is from 2023, like the original painting. Each one is a hand-finished lithograph. I paint over the print with my own acrylic brushstrokes, then add a textured gel that goes on white and dries completely clear. The surface has real relief, closer to a painting than to ordinary pop art prints or limited edition prints.
